HRMC Foundation’s Golfing for a Cause raises over $14,000 for Women’s Health

28 teams gathered at Broadland Creek National Golf Course on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 for the 5th annual Golfing for a Cause Tournament, presented by the Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Foundation. The tournament raised a total of $14,608 to support local women’s health through the We’ve Got You Covered Fund.

Despite a little rain and wind, participants enjoyed 18-holes of golf, with fun and games along the course including a golf-ball cannon, pink duck drive and even a hole riddled with hecklers. Adam DeJong scored the best cannon launch while Ted Header drove the pink rubber duck the farthest, donating his $263 cash prize winnings back to the Foundation. Team Haley Coss garnered the Best Dressed Team award and over 15 pin prizes were donated by local businesses.

Event sponsors included Ace Realty, Independent Health Solutions and New Life Clinic, with holes sponsored by 1st Stop Insurance, American Bank & Trust, Dakota Energy, Dakota Family Dentistry, Dakota Provisions, Huron Clinic, Jack Links, Kraus-Anderson Construction, Muth Electric and Marcia and Jon Zwanziger.

The We’ve Got You Covered program was initially launched to provide free mammograms for uninsured or underinsured women. This year, the mission has expanded to support a wider range of women’s health and cancer prevention initiatives.  Recognition of community need paired with fundraising success of the Golfing for a Cause tournament has allowed the Foundation to broaden the program to address critical gaps in women’s care including ovarian and cervical cancer prevention, health access equity and prenatal education in addition to outreach and education for Huron area women.

The Golfing for a Cause tournament is one of several annual fundraising events to support the program. Events earmarked for breast cancer prevention raised nearly $13,000 alone in 2024 including the Olympic Walk Around Ravine Lake, Runnings Ladies Night Out, Huron Tiger Volleyball Pink Out Game and Auction, Shoe Sensation Pink Campaign, Huron Hockey, Hitchcock High School Volleyball, and pink hair tinsel sales from Escape Salon.
