Commitment Scholarship

The Healthy Huron Commitment Scholarship was established in 2016 to turn the tide on one of the top challenges facing Huron and rural health care. This effort focuses on developing a steady supply of highly trained medical professionals by heavily supporting their education journey in exchange for them returning to Huron to care for our community.

The Commitment Scholarship deadline is Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Eligibility Requirements

Must commit to work at HRMC or in the Huron region at a participating medical facility for a determined amount of time following graduation. Must be a graduating senior or currently attending/enrolled in post-secondary education. Must intend on pursuing a degree in a high-need medical field as determined by the HRMC Foundation. Must have a 2.0 or better grade-point average.

Nursing

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Program*
  Build Dakota Full Ride Match with Lake Area Technical Institute, Mitchell Technical College or Southeast Technical Institute
  Up to $8,000 per year ($8,000 total) – Number of available scholarships available is contingent upon Build Dakota eligibility and community need.

• Registered Nurse (RN) Program
  Build Dakota Full Ride Match with Lake Area Technical Institute, Mitchell Technical College or Southeast Technical Institute
  Up to $8,000 per year ($8,000 total) – Number of available scholarships available is contingent upon Build Dakota eligibility and community need.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree
  Up to $5,000 per year ($20,000 total) 

Laboratory Science

• Lab Tech*
  Build Dakota full ride match with Lake Area Technical Institute or Mitchell Technical College
  Up to $5,500 per year ($11,000 total) 

Respiratory Therapy

• Respiratory Therapist 
  Up to $5,000 per year ($20,000 total) 

* Program is eligible for the Build Dakota Scholarship matching funds. This may affect total scholarship amount. Application must also be completed for Build Dakota.
